A Stylish Love Af-flare

These jeans! Normally I like to warm you up with some small talk, a little Schur house-of-crazy update, but tonight I just want to talk about these jeans! They are "shaping" jeans from H & M, and I feel like they do wonders (you can tell me if I'm delusional) for creating a long leg and for holding  me in in the right places. Now if they just had a built-in bootie, then I'd really be in business!

Now onto the small talk: We've been home from Hawaii for a whopping 48 hours, and my mind and my body are still on island time; i.e., not wanting to be in the rat race and wanting to sit around watching the ocean all day. As my husband likes to remind me, once you have kids, vacation is not really, well, vacation; it's more like combining travel and some fun and a lot of work and little sleep. Luckily my parents were with us and helped out a lot with the kids, so it did actually feel like vacation a lot of the time. One of these days I'm going to vacation in a hotel room with a nice cozy bed, serious blackout shades, and no children. It's gonna happen--I'm going to get that elusive full night of sleep. Just you watch.

Ok kids, it's late and I'm trying to be on good behavior, so I'm out for now. I hope you're all enjoying the first week of spring and enjoying restful nights of sleep. You ingrates.

All my love (and a little resentment),

Power Blazer and Pumps

Working in the financial services industry, I don't have the luxury of being able to wear jeans everyday. I do, however, think pairing darker hued jeans with classic pieces like this black blazer and heels dresses up the look enough to get away with jeans.

I love blazers for their versatility, in and out of the office. They have the power of dressing up any look, and really defining your silhouette. Personally, I'm on the hunt for blazers in a wider range of colors (pink, please!) since they are such a great closet staple.

Let's also take a moment to discuss these Stuart Wietzman pumps. Don't be fooled by their thin heels and height. Although they may look like they hurt, they're actually one of the most comfortable pair of heels I own.

So, in conclusion, my friends, don't underestimate the power of a blazer and heels to dress up any outfit. Take a look at some similar pieces linked below!

Check Mate

Disclaimer: I'm pretty much delirious as I'm writing this, so you'll have to forgive me if I'm babbling or not making sense. I recently read a meme that said, "You have the same number of hours in a day as Beyonce." Thanks for that reminder, thanks a lot. But I suppose it's true that if you have a passion for something you've got to make time to pursue it, even if it means bags under your eyes and more gray hair. Oh wait, maybe it's my kids doing that to me. Hmmmm....let's just take this opportunity to give a shoutout for makeup and photoshop.

Tonight after I got the kids to bed (Sylvie finally stopped protesting at 9), I pureed some sweet potatoes for Parker and sliced up six mangoes. SIX MANGOES. Who in their right mind goes to Costco and buys wholesale-sized containers of mangoes? This girl, apparently. I love them, but as my friend Ivy recently noted, they are a lot of work for very little return. But I'm kind of obsessed with mango coconut smoothies right now, so at the time of purchase, it made perfect sense. Clearly my lack of sleep is impairing my judgement.

I finally started on this post after my kitchen endeavors, and here I am at 11pm in my cuckoo bird state droning on about mangoes. So let's get to the important stuff, shall we?

The birthday bouquet featured in this post is from my dear husband, and it's from Farmgirl Flowers, who are amazing. I had a great birthday weekend, filled with Irish Coffees, good food, a bridal shower, an Oscars gala, and best of all, a visit from my parents. This week is pretty much all-around depressing after a weekend like that!

The dress in this post can be found here, and I've also added some other cuties below.

Can I just tell you that each and every time I see one of you and you tell me you read my blog, it makes my week. You're the best!! Have a great week and THANK YOU for following along with me!

Classic Closet

One of the many reasons why personal style is so powerful is the sense of confidence you can gain from wearing something flattering, comfortable, and stylish at the same time. A great outfit can help me get through the most challenging of workdays with a sunnier disposition, and this day was no exception.

All of these pieces have been part of my wardrobe for quite a while, but I recently resurrected this cream colored jacket and wore it with this look. You know those pieces that you can't bring yourself to give away because you might "one day" want to wear it again? Most of the time those items just take up space in my already tiny closet, but this jacket ended up being worth keeping.

As a style blogger/recovering shop-a-holic, it is tough to suppress the urge to always be buying something new. When you're creative with your wardrobe, however, it's a great reminder that you don't need to participate in our consumer culture to look and feel great.

Although I do love experimenting with the latest trends, there's something to be said about sticking with classic prints (I consider leopard print a neutral) and staples, and pairing them with something unexpected (like these red sunnies!).
